Information Design + Branding
The State of Hispanic Homeownership Report is NAHREP’s principal publication and an industry benchmark, documenting how the U.S. Latinx population is fairing in respect to the attainment of homeownership. Increasingly complex data called for a different approach to information design for 2018 onward. In the midst of an increasingly hostile political climate, this project called for humanizing and contextualizing very dense data-driven content about a marginalized group. Additionally, this project required the use of designs which could be used by non-designers on the fly.
The result was a set of character puppets and props any designer could edit and any non-designer could integrate into their work. These designs were also adapted for motion design, used in animated video promotion, and were integrated into NAHREP’s company branding.

Character design

Diversity and cultural expression were kept top of mind during the design process. I wanted to emphasize visually how Latino-American population is not a monolith by showcasing diverse ages, bodies, complexions, religions, and other such features whenever possible. This is best emphasized within the final report and infographic designs.
Report Design

Above, a large, story-based infographic meant to humanize large and complex data sets in order to best tell the story of the community. Below, showcased samples of how these character designs were used in subsequent reports to further that storytelling narrative.

We would use these character and set designs across various social media campaigns we felt could use a humanist element.
